Blood
2023
Ox meat, latex, lime powder

In the 17th century Wales, blood was
used as paint on walls for protection against
negative energy; a superstition. Exploring blood
as a tool for protecting, ox meat’s excess liquid
was extracted to form a layer of paint mixed
with latex and lime powder, becoming
a physical matter. Inspired by A White Bull by
Lee Jung Seob, this ‘thin’ layer of solidified
liquid results in a talismanic piece that highlights
a spiritual belief, thus allowing protection.
